MICHAEL SHORT
Senior Advisor
Michael Short is a successful SME entrepreneur whose functionality specialty is investing in Risk Data and Background Screening firms that operate in international markets.
Since 2000, Michael has co-founded and financed three of Asia and the Middle East's most successful risk data and background screening businesses, he subsequently exited all via acquisition by multi-national market leaders or PE firms. His main focus remains businesses in the risk management and risk data spaces.
Michael is an experienced global business leader and has managed at either CEO or Board Director level in numerous businesses and business units during the past 20 years. Including leading global sales and marketing teams from the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, managing back office and research operations in India, Malaysia and China and managing at a board level one of the first truly global ‘RegTech’ companies.
Prior to life in the corporate world, Michael was an inspectorate officer in the Royal Hong Kong Police where he specialized in Criminal Intelligence and Asian Organised Crime enforcement. Michael speaks English and Chinese (Cantonese).

Experienced Start Up Specialist – Michael has comprehensive experience in establishing start-up businesses and building them to medium sized operations. He has had responsibility for financing, managing rapid growth, instigating quality control and ensuring service delivery, development and retention of key clients, resource planning for continued development of the company, sourcing external funding, negotiating the ‘exit’, directing at a board level and interacting with individual, corporate and private equity investors to ensure successful outcomes.
Risk management information and background screening specialist – Michael is extremely well versed in investing in highly effective due-diligence led background screening programmes based on ‘open source’ information. His functional specialty is designing risk based solutions for FCPA and anti-money laundering compliance systems by structuring enhanced due diligence programmes that draw heavily on technology and are exclusively comprised of ethically sourced information.

Invicta provided an interim CEO to a risk management company with offices in The Philippines, China and Australia. Due to a bereavement, the client company had an immediate need for a CEO to replace its charismatic founder in a time of rapid change and considerable instability within the company. We remained in place for 12 months until the management team was remodeled, and a permanent CEO was in place.
